• The qualifier adjusts the scope of the claim, like opening or closing the focus zoom on a telescope.

• Most all-or-nothing claims (unqualified claims) are vulnerable to counterexamples. So, arguers use hedges such as most, some, nearly all, often, usually, sometimes, in most cases, and countless others.
