Synthesis

Synthesis requires writers to blend information from different sources into a new, meaningful text. It's a cognitively demanding (hard) task involving reading and writing activities. Synthesis writing is common in upper-secondary and higher education and is also expected in many professional writing situations, even when nobody mentions the word “synthesis.” It challenges writers because it involves knowledge transformation through reading, rereading, integrating, organizing, and elaborating different source texts.

Synthesis involves putting different information, arguments, and ideas into meaningful relationships to see how they fit together.
